Blake Lively, the queen of Gossip Girl and the poster child for Upper East Side chic, has found herself under the microscope yet again as another cringeworthy interview from 2017 has resurfaced. And oh boy, it’s giving people all the feels—mostly the uncomfortable kind.
In the latest installment of “Did Blake Lively Really Say That?” a seemingly innocent interview promoting her thriller film All I See Is You has TikTok buzzing with claims that the actress was, well, not exactly a ray of sunshine. Fans and critics alike are asking: Is Blake Lively Hollywood’s reigning mean girl?
In October 2017, during an interview with DP/30, Blake Lively was promoting All I See Is You, a film far removed from her Gossip Girl days. When asked about future roles, what should’ve been a straightforward question turned sour. Instead of a typical response, Blake reacted with an eye-roll and snapped back, “What does that mean?” The interviewer tried to clarify, even joking about her singing abilities, but Blake sarcastically reminded him that she did sing in the movie, then questioned if he’d even watched it before the interview.
As the interview continued, Lively’s mood soured, crossing her arms and maintaining a deadpan expression while claiming to be a “shy person”—the same “shy” person who once called her Gossip Girl castmates “monkeys” in another interview. She also mentioned her years of acting classes and daily improvisation, especially with husband Ryan Reynolds. Sounds like life in the Lively-Reynolds household is full of improv fun, even if interviews are a drag.
Before you rush to defend Blake, remember this isn’t her first brush with the “rude” label. Recall the awkward 2016 interview with Kjersti Flaa, which almost made Flaa quit her job. Blake has a history of giving reporters the cold shoulder. Two years later, while promoting A Simple Favor with Anna Kendrick, Blake sarcastically announced the room was ready for a “therapy session” but quickly made it clear she wasn’t in the mood for chit-chat. She wrapped up with a snarky comment about people attending press junkets just for the free alcohol and cupcakes—hardly a gracious farewell.
As with anything involving Blake Lively, the internet was quick to pick sides. Some fans jumped to her defense, calling the criticisms of her behavior “hateful” and “forced.” Others, however, weren’t so forgiving. Comments flooded TikTok, with one person saying, “Blake likes to keep her claws out and sharpened. I used to like her, but her attitude is just too much.”
Another chimed in, “I find it quite amusing when some celebrities seem to think that they are doing the media and public a favor by giving these interviews. The media are doing THEM the favor by co-operating in the promotion of their latest book or film.”
And this shade thrown by another user: “Considering Blake’s attitude, you would think she was some award-winning A-list actress. Really, how many box office hits did she lead? She needs to humble herself.”
