We’re getting a mini Grey’s Anatomy reunion!
Ellen Pompeo and Katherine Heigl will reunite for the first time since the Firefly Lane actress left Grey’s Anatomy in 2010.
Twice a year, Variety puts two actors in touch with each other so they can talk about their careers and lives.
Pompeo and Heigl will be in the 18th season of the show.
Last year, Pompeo spoke up in support of her former co-star on her podcast, Tell Me with Ellen Pompeo.
Heigl went on David Letterman’s Late Night show in 2009 and said, “I’m going to keep saying this because I hope it embarrasses them.” She also said that her normal work day was 17 hours and that it was “cruel and mean.”
Ellen told her friend and co-star on Grey’s Anatomy, Kate Walsh, “I remember Heigl saying something on a talk show about how crazy long hours we were working, and she was totally right.”
She went on to say, “If she had said that today, she’d be a hero.” But she was ahead of her time. She said something about our crazy hours, and of course, let’s insult a woman and call her selfish.’
Pompeo, who left the show last year, added that Heigl was “100% honest” and “absolutely right” when she talked about their work hours.
Pompeo said, “And she was f***ing brave to say it.” “And she was being honest. She did not lie.’
When Heigl left the long-running medical drama, she got a lot of criticism for being hard to work with.
She has said that she was just misunderstood. She told the Washington Post, “I may have said a couple of things you didn’t like, but that escalated to “she’s ungrateful,” which escalated to “she’s difficult,” which escalated to “she’s unprofessional.”
“What do you mean when you say something is hard? Someone, whose ideas you don’t agree with? Now that I’m 42, that stuff makes me mad,” she said.
While playing Dr. Izzie Stephens on Grey’s Anatomy, the actress caused outrage when she didn’t put herself up for an Emmy Award in 2008, saying that she wasn’t “given the material to warrant a nomination.”
‘Our first day back was Wednesday and it was — I’m going to keep saying this because I hope it embarrasses them — a 17-hour day, which I believe is harsh and horrible,’ she said to Letterman.
In 2015, her anxiety was so bad that she felt like she would rather be dead. She asked her family to help her get professional help for her mental health problems.
“I felt like I would rather be dead, so I asked my mom and my husband to find me a place where I could get help. I didn’t know how much anxiety I had until it got so bad that I had to get help.
Heigl said, “You can do a lot of inner soul work, but I like Zoloft a lot.”
Her husband, musician Josh Kelley, said that if Heigl had said the things she did back then, she’d be considered a hero now.
