A sudden change of heart. Taylor Swift and Matty Healy have called it quits just after their whirlwind romance made headlines, Us Weekly confirms.
“Taylor and Matt are no longer romantically involved,” a source tells us exclusively. “They had a lot of fun together, but it was never serious.”
The Grammy winner, 33, and The 1975’s lead singer, 34, were linked in May, just weeks after being revealed that Swift had separated from her boyfriend of nearly six years, Joe Alwyn.
She and Healy did not officially address their relationship status, although the British musician was photographed in the VIP section of Swift’s Eras Tour gigs in Nashville that month. On May 13, he shared the stage with Phoebe Bridgers as she opened for Taylor Swift in Philadelphia.
A source told us at the time that the “August” singer and Healy were “hanging out” and “having fun together.” “They both respect and admire each other’s talent,” the insider said. “They share many friends, including Jack Antonoff.”
Swift and the “Robbers” singer were wanting to “give things a second chance” after a “brief” relationship nearly ten years previously, according to the insider.
When the Cats actress was seen attending numerous of his band’s concerts in 2014, it fueled relationship speculations. They raised even more heads when they were spotted wearing each other’s clothing.
Healy appeared to put an end to romance rumors at the time, but his response got him in hot trouble when he declared that dating someone as renowned as Swift would be “emasculating.” In an interview with Elle two years later, he talked about the controversy.
“I was immersed for a very short time in a celebrity world that I found confusing and scary,” the “Happiness” singer stated in 2016. “At the time, I was afraid of being somebody’s boyfriend’… before even being recognized for my music or presence as a person in my own right.”
The “Somebody Else” singer claimed that “90 percent” of the questions he was asked during the rumor mill were “about either [Taylor] as a person or what our ‘interaction’ was like.” Despite his displeasure with the scenario, he expressed “a lot of respect and admiration” for Swift herself.
Throughout the years, the pair appeared to have remained cordial. In January, the Miss Americana singer stunned audiences at London’s O2 Arena by performing a few songs during The 1975’s show.
Meanwhile, Healy stated some months ago that his band collaborated with Swift on her October 2022 album, Midnights.
“But then [that] version was never released….” It was for reasons that should not be questioned. “She’s incredible,” he said in an interview in November 2022.
Prior to the couple’s split, a source told us in May that the “Cardigan” singer was “getting to like [Matty] the more she gets to know him” and was “happier than she’s been in a long time.”
Fans, however, were harshly critical of the relationship due to Healy’s questionable past. The “She’s American” singer has made headlines before, most recently for laughing along on “The Adam Friedland Show” while the podcast’s producers mocked Ice Spice’s heritage.
The conversation included a discussion of the porn website “Ghetto Gaggers,” which contains derogatory content directed at women of color.
Previously, Healy apologized to Ice Spice, who worked with Swift on a new rendition of “Karma” during a show. In a recent New Yorker profile, the producer addressed the topic further.
“It actually doesn’t matter,” he contended. “Nobody sits there at night slumped at their computer, and their boyfriend comes over and asks, ‘What’s wrong, darling?’ and they say, ‘It’s just this thing with Matty Healy.'” That doesn’t happen. If it does, you are either delusional or a liar.”
He added: “You’re either lying that you are hurt, or you’re a bit mental for being hurt. It’s just people going, ‘Oh, there’s a bad thing over there, let me get as close to it as possible so you can see how good I am.’”
