Suzanne Rogers, the iconic actress beloved for her role as Maggie Horton on “Days of Our Lives,” has revealed her courageous battle with cancer in a deeply personal interview. At 82, Rogers faced a life-altering diagnosis this summer—Stage 2 colorectal cancer—which she discovered after following her intuition that something was wrong with her health.
Always attentive to her wellbeing, Rogers regularly undergoes medical checkups. But this time, she sensed an unusual feeling that prompted her to see her physician faster than usual. After a routine colonoscopy, her doctor advised immediate, more thorough testing: MRI, PET scan, and eventually a biopsy. The moment these tests were ordered, Rogers felt the gravity of the situation. “As soon as he said that, I realized it was something serious,” she recounted in her interview.
Her instincts proved right—results confirmed cancer, and she was told immediate treatment was necessary. “It was a complete shock,” Rogers shared. “I was in disbelief for several days, because I generally take good care of myself.” Despite the surprise, Rogers took solace in her doctor’s reassurance that early detection had given her the best chance for recovery.
Her treatment began just days after wrapping up the summer filming for the legendary soap. The regimen was intense: daily radiation and chemotherapy, scheduled five days a week for six consecutive weeks. “It was challenging knowing I had to undergo chemotherapy five days a week, with only Saturdays and Sundays off. I truly cherished my weekends because I didn’t have to visit a doctor,” Rogers shared. She described the fatigue as overwhelming, not just from illness but also the sheer frequency of medical visits.
This challenging period required not only physical endurance but also mental fortitude. Rogers leaned on her “Days of Our Lives” family, who offered unwavering support and encouragement throughout her journey. The beloved actress kept her battle largely private, emphasizing the importance of strength, optimism, and early intervention.
Rogers is grateful for the opportunity to share her story, hoping to inspire others to trust their bodies, prioritize health screenings, and seek medical advice if something feels amiss. She credits early detection as a critical factor in her healing and encourages everyone, especially those over 45, to keep up with routine screenings.
Despite the hardships, Rogers remains positive about her recovery and looks forward to returning to her role. As she prepares to step back onto the set, she carries with her not only the wisdom born of a difficult experience but also the love and resilience forged in the hearts of her fans and colleagues. Her narrative stands as both a warning and an inspiration—early action can change outcomes, and hope, even in the face of adversity, remains a powerful ally.
