The world premiere of “Dune: Part Two” in London was a star-studded affair, but all eyes were on the radiant Zendaya as she stole the show in a captivating silver C-3PO-esque robot outfit that turned heads and set tongues wagging.
While Zendaya’s futuristic fashion statement grabbed headlines, actress Florence Pugh had nothing but praise for director Denis Villeneuve and the groundbreaking film he has crafted. Speaking to Sky News on the red carpet at Leicester Square, Pugh couldn’t contain her excitement as she hailed “Dune: Part Two” as potentially the greatest movie she has ever watched.
“When I watched the movie, I said, ‘I think this might be the best movie I’ve ever watched in my life,'” Pugh revealed, emphasizing the film’s potential to become a timeless masterpiece studied by future generations of cinema enthusiasts.
Pugh, who joins the cast as the Emperor’s daughter, Princess Irulan, shared her awe at working alongside acting legend Christopher Walken, who portrays her character’s father in the film.
“Take away the characters, I’m just glad that I got to spend that much time with Christopher Walken. I just got to watch him and learn and take in everything,” Pugh expressed, reflecting on the invaluable experience of working with such an esteemed actor.
For Pugh, being a part of “Dune: Part Two” felt like a return to the essence of traditional filmmaking, where meticulous attention to detail and immersive sets elevate the cinematic experience.
“It takes you back to how movies should be made,” she remarked. “Putting people in the right spaces with the right costumes and the right actors… When you’re in those locations and on those unbelievable sets, it does lots of the acting for you. I feel very, very, very lucky to be here.”
Based on Frank Herbert’s acclaimed 1965 novel, “Dune: Part Two” delves into themes of politics, religion, environmentalism, and the struggle for resources. Pugh noted the relevance of these themes in today’s world, particularly amid growing concerns about global issues like climate change and geopolitical tensions.
“While we think of ‘Dune’ as a distant science fiction future, some of its themes are equally representative of wider issues we are experiencing today,” Pugh remarked, highlighting the enduring relevance of Herbert’s narrative and its profound exploration of humanity’s perpetual struggles.
