Artist Alexandra Grant, who is in a relationship with actor Keanu Reeves, granted a rare interview where she shared insights into their relationship. While the couple typically keeps their romance out of the spotlight, Grant made an exception while attending the Los Angeles Beverly Arts Icon Awards, where she was honored.
When asked about what it’s like to date someone as famous as Reeves and whether it’s more challenging to attend red carpet events with or without him, Grant responded, “The good news about falling in love as an adult is that I had built my own career by the time that my relationship had begun. I feel very confident in the relationship on the red carpet. I feel confident on it alone.”
Grant and Reeves have known each other since at least 2011 when they collaborated on the book “Ode to Happiness,” which features illustrations by Grant and text by Reeves. Their friendship gradually turned into a romantic relationship.
During the interview, Grant spoke about a creative rut she experienced and how Reeves helped her navigate it. She explained, “In a moment of frustration in my life, I once said, ‘Sometimes I feel like a Maserati stuck in traffic,’ that I have this big engine, but, for a variety of reasons, I couldn’t ever go.” She added that creative people often feel this way.
Grant praised Reeves for being an inspiration and described their dynamic as one of pushing each other to explore new creative avenues. She emphasized his creativity, kindness, and strong work ethic.
Despite working in different mediums, Grant and Reeves share a common thread as storytellers. Grant noted that filmmaking involves many people, whereas being an artist is more solitary, but both require storytelling.
Grant also expressed her support for Reeves’ band, Dogstar, and recalled attending one of their first public shows, where she knew all the lyrics to their songs.
Reeves reciprocated the affection, mentioning a recent moment of bliss with Grant, saying, “A couple of days ago with my honey. We were smiling and laughing and giggling. Feeling great. It was just really nice to be together.”
