Blake Lively turned heads and sparked a wave of nostalgia as she graced the red carpet in a stunning Versace dress once famously worn by pop icon Britney Spears. The 36-year-old actress, known for her roles in “Gossip Girl” and more recently as Ladypool in the blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine,” donned the cleavage-baring ensemble at the New York City premiere of her latest movie, “It Ends With Us.” The dress, a nude-toned number covered in pastel-colored stones, was previously worn by Spears at a 2002 Versace show in Milan. It was a look that screamed “pop princess,” yet Lively made it her own with her characteristic elegance.
The timing of this tribute couldn’t be more perfect. Just days before, news broke that Britney Spears’ tell-all memoir, “The Woman In Me,” is being adapted into a biopic. Universal Studios snapped up the rights to the memoir, and the project is already generating buzz with director Jon M. Chu (known for “Wicked”) at the helm and producer Marc Platt, famous for the “Legally Blonde” franchise, on board.
Blake didn’t stop at just wearing the dress; she also took to Instagram to express her admiration for Britney. She posted a photo of Spears in the original dress, soundtracked by Britney’s 2003 ballad “Everytime,” and captioned it with glowing praise. “Today’s mood,” Blake wrote in typewriter font, hailing Britney as “the ultimate queen who made us all want to sparkle and share our stories.”
In her post, Blake wrote a heartfelt message to Britney, thanking her for inspiring a generation with her strength, joy, and hard work. “Britney, us millennials all have a story of a moment, or of years that you made us want to shine and inspire awe,” Lively gushed. She also expressed excitement for Britney’s upcoming biopic, adding, “Thank you for your example and your contribution to women telling their stories. So excited about your biopic and all you have to come.”
As always, fans had plenty to say about Blake’s Britney-inspired look. Comments ranged from admiration to outright disdain, highlighting the polarizing nature of celebrity fashion tributes.
“No one could touch Britney at the turn of the millennium, she glowed with beauty and spirit.”, one stated.
“Britney looked amazing! Give us a break from this Blake lady and her husband.”, another chirped.
“Blake is gorgeous but her acting leaves much to be desired.”, someone added.
In “It Ends With Us,” Blake takes on the role of Lily Bloom, a woman navigating a tumultuous and ultimately abusive relationship with Ryle Kincaid, played by Justin Baldoni. The film, directed by Baldoni, is adapted from Colleen Hoover’s best-selling 2016 novel. It’s a departure from Blake’s typical roles, offering a raw and emotional performance that’s sure to resonate with audiences.
