Ed Sheeran Pays Tribute To Australian Rock Legends With A Cover Of ‘Throw Your Arms Around Me’

Ed Sheeran, the global superstar and one of the most successful artists of the 21st century, has shown his love and admiration for Australian music by recording a cover of Hunters & Collectors’ classic song “Throw Your Arms Around Me” for a special anniversary album.

The album, titled Mushroom 50, is a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Mushroom Group, the largest independent music and entertainment company in Australia and New Zealand. The album features 50 songs from 50 different artists, spanning across genres and generations, showcasing the diversity and richness of Australian music.

Ed Sheeran’s cover of “Throw Your Arms Around Me” is a heartfelt and acoustic rendition of the song, which was originally released by Hunters & Collectors in 1984 and has since become one of the most beloved and iconic songs in Australian rock history. The song has been covered by many other artists, including Pearl Jam, Crowded House, and Neil Finn, and was voted as the second best Australian song of all time by Triple J listeners in 1990.

Ed Sheeran said that he chose to cover the song because he was a fan of Hunters & Collectors and their lead singer Mark Seymour, and because he wanted to pay tribute to the Australian music scene, which he said was “one of the best in the world.” He also said that he was honored to be part of the Mushroom 50 album, which he described as “a fantastic project that celebrates the legacy and impact of Mushroom Group on Australian music and culture.”

The Mushroom 50 album is set to be released on November 27, 2023, and will be available on all streaming platforms and physical formats. The album also features songs by Paul Kelly, Kylie Minogue, Vance Joy, The Rubens, and many more. You can listen to a snippet of Ed Sheeran’s cover of “Throw Your Arms Around Me”.
